DANCE PROGRAM GUIDELINES
The following are simple guidelines to ensure that practices start and finish in a timely manner and that everyone’s health and safety, students, instructors and parents, is maintained throughout the year. By signing this document, both parents and students are acknowledging and accepting the following set of rules to be followed for all practices, performances and church related events.
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class time. If you are waiting for your child during their lesson, please do so quietly outside the classroom. All parents of students on Monday nights must remain on the premises during their child’s class. Older siblings are not permitted to chaperone younger siblings. We kindly ask that parents wait for their children in the hallway rather than in the main Church hall.
In the event a parent needs to leave during class time, please notify the instructor which parent present will act as chaperone. In the event of an absence, please email the instructor by noon the day of their lesson. Communication for any cancellations of practices will be done via email as soon as possible. For bad weather, notice of cancellations will be emailed as early as possible, but will mostly be the day of practice. Please use your discretion in inclement weather. Maintaining a clean environment is essential. We share a space and it is necessary that we respect the property. Please collect all garbage and keep the washrooms clean. Class treats brought in by parents for the dancers are welcomed if they are nut-free.
Please ensure your child is dressed in the proper attire and ready for dance:
• Mandatory program-issued t-shirt
• Running shoes and comfortable clothing
• No winter boots/uggs or flip flops/sandals
• No chewing gum during class
• No hats during class time
We have a strict no discrimination policy. This includes all forms of bullying. Physical violence is not tolerated. Verbal discrimination of any kind is not allowed. That includes, but is not limited to, verbal discrimination on the basis of someone’s race, gender, sexual orientation, physical appearance, age, or abilities. If any child or parent does not act in accordance with these rules they will be asked to leave the class/dance space. If this behaviour persists, the continuation of the student in the dance program will be at the discretion of the instructors.
In addition to the above, students are required to follow these guidelines:
• Electronic games/devices/phones are not to be used during class. If a student decides to continue use of these devices after warning, their chaperone will be asked to come remove the device or the student will be asked to leave practice.
• All students must stay on church property at all times unless otherwise permitted by an instructor. No student, under any circumstance, is allowed to be in the parking lot unless supervised by an adult.
• For students arriving in their own motorized vehicles, your safety is important to us. Therefore, no irresponsible driving/behaviour in the parking lot or near the church will be permitted. If you do not follow this rule, you will be asked to be dropped off and picked up by an adult for the remainder of the year.
• No drug or alcohol use is permitted. Any student attending class or a performance under the influence of either will result in prompt removal from the dance program.
• All students must respect one another, their teachers, and the space we use.
• You must help and encourage other students. If your behaviour is preventing another student from learning you will be asked to remove yourself from the class.
• Listen and respect your teachers. They are trying to help you learn and grow as dancers and as people. Not listening or talking back to them is only holding yourself back.
• You will be asked to leave if the instructors feel as though you are creating a negative learning environment.
If you miss two or more classes leading up to a performance, or 50% or more of classes throughout the year, it is based upon your instructor’s discretion to determine your level of involvement in that performance. It is within the instructor’s rights to determine if you should be held back from a performance in any capacity.
It is not the responsibility of the instructors or the church to handle any situations that directly or indirectly affect students that have not occurred during a dance program related event. If a situation unrelated to the dance program arises that may affect a student during their class time, please make the instructor aware prior to the start of class.
IF YOU PAY THE MEMBER PRICE BUT YOU ARE CONFIRMED A NON-MEMBER, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PAY THE EXTRA AMOUNT OTHERWISE YOUR REGISTRATION WILL BE VOID.
